Dorset Indoor League : U12

Bashley 155 for 2, Ellingham 41 all out

Well what a performance that was from the boys last night which saw them sweep a talented Ellingham team aside and move to the top of Indoor Division 1!  Captain Josh Royan won the toss and decided to bat and he and Joshua Bailey got Bashley immediately on the front foot with some powerful hitting before Royan (17) nicked a good one to the the keeper. Bailey (33 no) and Toby Mills (25 no) consolidated that good start both retiring deservedly unbeaten. Sam Presland helped maintain the momentum with some good scampering between the wickets before Mills was joined by Jack Harris (27 no) and they played very sensibly together to ensure that Bashley used their full allocation of 12 overs to reach a good total of 155-2 against a useful Ellingham attack.

Keeping up the high standard of recent matches Bashley were again electrifying in the field. Sam Presland took a nice catch to dismiss the Ellingham no.1 for a duck, when he was deceived by a nicely flighted delivery from Joshua Bailey. Josh Royan immediately put the pressure on by only conceding one scoring shot from the bat in his opening 2 overs and picking up a nice caught and bowled as his reward. Sharp work from Jack Harris behind the stumps accounted for Ellinghams no.3 off the bowling of Bailey and Bashley were truly on top. Scott Menary's accurate opening over then saw him tempt the batsman into a powerful lofted drive that was plucked out of the air brilliantly by Royan who in the same over ran out another batsman with an accurate throw, just for good measure! It then just remained for Presland to perform the last rights on the Ellingham innings with the 1st ball of the 6th over castling the stumps  and bringing the Ellingham innings to a close at 41 all out.

So a comprehensive win and a great evenings entertainment for all the Mum's and Dads watching and I was delighted that again all 6 boys contributed to an excellent team performance. Bashley can move forward with confidence towards their next fixture in 2 weeks time against Hamworthy.

Dorset Indoor League : U12

Bashley 141 for 5, Parley Panthers 83 all out.

Another strong performance on Friday saw Bashley move to the top of the league table with a good win over last years 3rd placed team Parley. Batting first we got off to a flyer with a strong opening partnership from Josh R and Dan B. Whilst we never really managed to maintain that initial momentum useful runs from Scott and another excellent contribution with the bat from Joshua B meant we closed on 141. Reviewing the close of the innings we still have room for development in terms of running, calling and shot selection at the death. Whilst the back wall is a tempting target with the power we have in the side I feel the gentle push to the cover / midwicket wall offers an almost guaranteed 4 for an alert pair looking to alternate the strike when the field has been stretched.

However with ball in hand and in the field Bashley were simply scintillating. Accurate bowling across the team (extras were down significantly on the 1st match) at it's best became unplayable. But it was individual acts of brilliance in the field (4 run outs in total) and excellent support behind the stumps from Jack which soon lead to Parley being reduced to 28-4.  A fine rearguard action from the Parley no. 4 delayed the inevitable but in the end maximum bowling points were Bashleys with Parley 83ao. It was really pleasing to see good decision making in the field in terms of when to throw, when not to and which end to go for. Similarly good to see Josh's confident captaincy and some innovative field placing taking account of the strong bowling attack on offer and the match situation.

 U11s and U15s:   Sunday 22nd June 2014

U15s:  -

Hythe & Dibden : 102 all out; Bashley 171 for 1

Bashley U15s continued their impressive league form this weekend with an away win at Hythe and Dibden.

Bashley won the toss and elected to bat, with the Bashley batsmen all batting confidently : W. Taylor (22), T. Harris and G. Pardoe both retired on 45 and 40 respectively, K. Laurent (28 no) and J. Edmunds (12 no) taking the score at the end of the innings to 171 for the loss of just 1 wicket.

In reply, Hythe & Dibden, despite the loss of a couple of early wickets, put on a run chase with T. Ladbury (22) and T. Knight-Owen (44) retiring on 40, then returning to the crease ( caught Laurent, bowled Edmunds)

Some excellent bowling again from the Bashley Squad, despite missing some of their regular key bowlers: T. Harris ( 4 overs, 20 runs, 2 wickets) and J. Edmunds ( 4 overs, 5 runs, 3 wickets)

Bashley U15 : T. Harris ( c), J. Edmunds, Chloe-Ann Anderson, Tash Davey, C. Davey, J. Gaunt, G. Pardoe, K. Laurent, O. Crutch, W. Taylor ( WK), E. Whiting

U11s -

Bashley U11 were out in force again at Bashley on Sunday, with both U11 elevens and U11 pairs playing at home.

U11 11-aside - Bashley v Lymington:       Bashley 106 for 4, Lymington 54 for 6

Bashley opened the batting with openers J. Harris and T. Mills looking for every possible run-scoring opportunity. T. Mills (11 ) was given LBW in the 5th over, but the score continued to push forward with Harris & Presland both retiring on 25. Wickets came for Lymington’s O.Scott and J. Royan ( 4 overs, 12 runs, 2 wickets), but Bashley finished 106 for 4 at the close of the innings.

The Lymington openers were held in check with some very accurate bowling from S. Presland, T. mills, O. Sparhott-Thompson ( 2 overs, 1 run, 0 wicket), and finally J. Royan (15) was caught behind from W. Donnison’s 1st over. Wickets also came for S. Menary, and a run-out from wicket keeper J. Harris. But a superb bowling performance for Bashley’s Rosie White : 2 0vers, 2 runs, 3 wickets, left Lymington 54 for 6 at the close.

Bashley’s pairs team also put up a valiant effort against Hythe & Dibden. Commendable performances again from our newer cricketers, against a very experienced Hythe squad. Praise and encouragement also from the Hythe & Dibden  coach, who took time to come over and  commend the performances that you’d all given

U11 11-aside – Pylewell Park v Bashley                           Pylewell 100 for 6, Bashley 104 for 1
Another exciting match promised here as both teams were very closely placed in the results table
Pylewell Park lost 2 early wickets:  a run out in the first over, and a wicket from A. Titcombe in the second. Accurate bowling from Bashley’s S. Presland ( 3 overs, 1 wicket, 1 run) had restricted the batting side to 2  for 2 after 3 overs.  Pylewell’s R. Mills eye was in as he found the boundary with successive 4s and then a spectacular 6, retiring on 25, and the run rate started to move up rapidly. A. Sopher also added to the tally, retiring on 27, and eventually the Bashley bowlers brook through, with wickets from T. Mills, S. Presland, Lucie Menary and Rosie White.
Pylewell finished on an impressive 100 for 6.
So there was a run chase to be made. In reply, Bashley’s opener S. Presland batted powerfully to retire on 28. J. Harris ( 25 retired) and T. Mills ( 6 retired injured) batted sensible against accurate bowling from D. Helliwell , before edging the score on again. Incoming W. Syms was also on form, reaching 25 retired with a flourishing 6. Bashley had reached 98 by the end of the 15th over, and despite a wicket for Pylewell’s J. Maas in the 16th over, Bashley finished the over with a 4 from J. Hughes to clinch the match: 104 for 1
An excellent, and high scoring match from both teams.
Bashley U11: , J. Harris ( WK), T. Mills © , S. Presland S. Menary, W. Syms, O. Sparshott-Thompson, W. Donnison, A. Titcombe, J. Hughes, Rosie White, Lucie Menary
U11 pairs South: Beaulieu v Bashley
Following last week’s match at Bashley, the 2 teams were drawn again, this time at Beaulieu.
Encouraging performances again from this developing pairs team, who lost just 2 wickets during their innings to finish on 251 for 2
Beaulieu batted confidently to reach a final score of 262, having lost 7 wickets. Excellent bowling performances from Katie Harding, and quick work from M. Chapman behind the wicket. Well done to everyone on good team communication and encouragement for each other…. You are getting stronger by the week, and it is great to see the development
Bashley U11: H. Bull ( c), J. Hishon, O. Hanscombe, J. Gates, Katie Harding,  Elizabeth De Wet, D. De Wet and M. Chapman ( WK)

Bashley U13s solid all round performance
Bashley 147 for 5 off 18  Fawley 31 for 8.
On a warm sunny Thursday Bashley won the toss and elected to bat.  Opener Patrick Lewis achieving yet another retirement repeated by No.3 Theo Dowler and with a sprinking of runs from the other batsmen Bashley reached their total of 147.  Exceptional bowling and solid fielding limited Fawley’s run rate to 31 off the 18 overs.  Notable figures, Chloe-Anne Anderson 2 for 0 off 2, Cavan Davey 2 for 1 off 1, Tom Saunders 1 for 1 off 2 with excellent catches from Chloe-Anne, Tom and Ed Whiting all added to the success.  All round good cricket.

Bashley U11 Cricket:     Sunday 8th June 2014

Under glorious blue skies, Bashley U11 were out in force at Bashley on Sunday, with, for the first time this season, both U11 elevens and U11 pairs playing at home.

U11 11-aside - Bashley v Michelmersh & Timsbury                           Bashley 73 for 5, M & T: 106 for 3

This was always going to be a match with both teams unbeaten so far, and with several Bashley regulars unavailable this weekend, the challenge for the rest was on !

Michelmersh & Timsbury openers M. Duncombe ( 25 retired) and N. Cooper (13) batted confidently until the breakthrough came in the 5th over with Cooper caught & bowled by S. Presland, who then bowled W. Whitmore in his next over. S. Gibson (0) was run out by a direct hit on the stumps from T. Mills, but M & T’s batting strength continued with H. Abraham (17 not out) and F. Northover ( 25 retired) taking their final total to 106 for 3.

In reply, Bashley’s openers J. Harris ( 22) and S. Menary (15) struggled to score initially against very accurate bowling. Boundaries finally started to appear before S. Menary was bowled by M. Duncombe and then Harris by H. Abrham. The batting struggle continued: W. Donnison hit a no-ball for 4 before being caught, but T. Mills ( 9 not out) and O. Sparshott-Thompson (6) pushed on, looking for every opportunity as the number of overs remaining dwindled, and 2 wickets fell to M & T’s R. Grimson in the final over. Bashley’s final score : 73 for 5.
Despite the result, it was a valiant effort from the team, and a huge well done to the less-experienced players for stepping up in this match against a very experienced opposition.

Bashley U11: , J. Harris ( WK), T. Mills, S. Presland S. Menary, O. Sparshott-Thompson, B. Dukes, W. Donnison, B. Fowle, S. Wright, D. De Wet, A. Newland.

U11 pairs South: Bashley v Beaulieu

Beaulieu opened the batting, and openers J. Bennett ( 20)  and I. Lovell  started confidently with Bennett finding the boundary on 4 occasions. The confident batting continued with their 2nd pair. Z.Bowen ( 13) and H. Varley, but excitement for Bashley as Elizabeth De Wet took a wicket in her first over. Beaulieu finished their innings on a very impressive 282 for the loss of just one wicket.
Bashley’s innings started with Katie Harding & Elizabeth De Wet batting carefully against some very economical bowling by Bowen and Bennett. The accurate bowling from Beaulieu continued , and wickets came for I. Lovell and G. Carthy in the 2nd and 3rd pairings. Bashley’s final pair H. Bull (14) and J. Hishon hit some good balls, but J. Addleton closed the innings with a maiden over, restricting Bashley to 242 for 2 at the close.

A very enjoyable match all round from both teams. There were encouraging performances from the Bashley Girls, especially Alicia Maude keeping wicket, and well done too to the lads- 3 of whom are very new to the sport still.
Bashley U11: H. Bull ( c), J. Hishon, O. Hanscombe, J. Gates, Katie Harding, Lucie Menary, Elizabeth De Wet and Alicia Maude ( wk)

U11 pairs team: Katie Harding, Elizabeth De Wet, Alicia Maude ( wk), Lucie Menary
Jevan Gates, Oscar Hanscombe, Joe Hishon and Henry Bull ( C)

Friday 6th June:     Bashley U9 v Lymington
The sun shone for a change on a Friday evening as Bashley welcomed Lymington to the BCG.
The home side were asked to bat first and the opening pair of Ben Fowle (1) and William Lewis (1) batted sensibly, allowing the 2nd pair of Kieran Pardey (7) and Ollie Owen (2) to take the mid innings score to 231. Joss Esposti and Daniel Hanlon-Rice (2) consolidated for the home side enabling Raphael Taylor (2) and Charlie Donnison to increase the tempo and the innings finished on 281, with Donnison hitting  four fours in an excellent 20.
Bashleys bowling and fielding then continued on the good work of their batsmen, between all 8 players who all bowled 2 overs each they took 6 Lymington wickets, with Hanlon-Rice taking a superb catch. Pardey took 2-10, Esposti 2-8 and Lewis 2-4 were the wicket takers.
An excellent team performance left Bashley the winners by 32 runs.

U13A - Hat-trick catch up week

After a  disastrous, weather-disrupted start to their season at last a time to catch up with league deadlines.  The U13s played Lymington 2, Beaulieu and New Milton within the week with success at each game.

Notable performances from Jake Yapp bowling for the Hawks for the first time with 3 wickets for 7 runs off 2 overs in addition to taking 3 catches,  Natasha Davey 2 for 5 off 2 against Beaulieu and Chloe-Anne Anderson  2 for 8 off 2 and 2 for 7 off 2 against Beaulieu and New Milton.  Captain, Patrick Lewis, set a fine example throughout the week with 2 retirements and a total of 71 runs.

Fielding and bowling consistent throughout the week, well done the team and well done the parents for a week of such contingencies.

Thursday 5th June:    Bashley B v New Milton

If you were present at this fixture, you might be forgiven for thinking that Bashley’s opponent was called Noisy Milton rather than New Milton. An exuberant bunch of NM cricketers certainly exercised considerable good-natured banter in the field to entertain all listeners apart, perhaps, from Bashley’s batsmen. It must have been the sunshine, which was present in all its welcome glory.

New Milton are always a cricketing force to respect and this match was no different as they fielded eleven strong U13 players against Bashley’s willing band of ten U12, U11 and U10s. The result was never in doubt, but Bashley’s intention from the outset was to gain the maximum batting and bowling points and a heap of experience. We were not going to make it easy for the opponents.

Having won the toss, Bashley took to the field and bowled steadily against some very aggressive batting. Intent and spirit were strong as the bowlers forced regular errors from the batsmen giving numerous catching opportunities. Sadly, most catches were dropped, but all fielders made excellent attempts. Working on catching the high ball should be a top priority for training. We did hold some good catches, though, including two spectacular ones by Rob Wakefield on the boundary.

New Milton scored 144 for 7 in 18 overs with single wickets for Rob Wakefield, Oakley Sparshott-Thompson, Eddie Clark and Jake Yapp. Scott Menary took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 2 overs. After the match, the NM coach said that if we had taken our opportunities in the field then his side would have been all out for around 80.

Bashley’s innings was focussed. The bowling was accurate and faster than many of our batsmen were used to. Bashley fought well and lasted the full 18 overs, despite considerable pressure from the field. The final total of 60 for 8 was a fair reflection of the difference between the sides. Top scorer was Rob Wakefield with a belligerent 18.

Next on the menu for Bashley U13B is a home match against Sway on the 19th June.

New Forest Cup Weekend:

Sunday 1st June:

U11 New Forest Cup - Fawley  V Bashley:                           Fawley 48 for 8, Bashley 72  for 7
Playing away at Fawley, Bashley’s U11 lost the toss and were put into bat.
Bashley’s opening batsmen started confidently, with a boundary from S. Presland on the first ball. He then fell prey to Fawley’s H. Thomas in the 2nd over . The runs continued slowly, but steadily, with further wickets from Fawleys bowlers:  J. Ward ( 2 over, 2 wickets, 3 runs), J. Elkins and T. Forster. Notable batting came  from Bashley’s J Harris (24) and  S. Menary (10) who kept the runs coming, with Bashley reaching  a total of 72  for 7 at the close of the innings.

In reply, the Bashley bowlers hampered  Fawley’s run rate. Wicket maidens came from W. Syms  ( 3 overs, 6 runs, 2 Wks) ,a double wicket maiden from A. Titcombe ( 2 overs, 1 run, 2 wickets) and a maiden over for J. Hughes ( 2 overs, 2 runs, 1 wk). Further wickets came from S. Presland, S. Menary and L. Menary.  Despite the early fall of wickets, there was a determined stand from Fawley’s C. Parrett (19) who patiently saw out the innings. The final ball of the innings produced a final wicket, caught behind taking Fawley’s final score to 48 for 8 at the close.

An excellent bowling performance from the Bashley squad, and they now progress to the next round of the U11 New Forest Cup.

Well done also to 2 U11s playing in their first 11 -aside match today
Bashley U11:  S. Presland ( c) J. Harris (WK), W. Syms, S. Menary, L. Menary, , A. Titcombe, O. Sparhott-Thomson, J. Hughes, B. Dukes, H. Bull, D. De Wet

Friday 30th May:         Bashley U9 251 , Fawley 262

Bashley won the toss and asked the visitors to bat on a soft and slow Bashley outfield.
Despite all the home bowlers bowling well Fawley batted steadily and without losing any wickets completed their innings on 262.
In reply Bashleys all four pairs had good partnerships but unfortunately lost 3 wickets leaving the home team 11 runs short of the required total.
Kieran Pardey (6) Nick Esterhuizen (5) Joshua Randall (4) James Bala (2) were Bashley run scorers.
Team: James Bala, William Manning, Joshua Shafer, Nick Esterhuizen, Joshua Randall, Leo Rogers, Kieran Pardey & Thomas Manning

Sunday 18th May:

U11- Bashley v New Milton:                           Bashley 62 for 0,  New Milton 61 for 3

Glorious sunshine finally arrived this weekend as Bashley’s U11 hosted local team New Milton this Sunday
New Milton batted first, but Bashley’s bowlers all performed well, keeping the progress slow for New Milton’s F. Denman and J. Devlin and making the runs hard to come by. The break-through came in the first ball of the 9th over for T. Mills, when Devlin was caught behind by J. Harris. New Milton’s J. Wooster pushed the run rate on and achieved a respectable 20 before being bowled by O. Sparshott-Thompson. He was followed by E. Wooster in the next over, stumped by J. Harris. New Milton finished their innings on 61 for 3, with F. Denman having seen out the innings, and finishing on 22 not out. A good all round bowling and fielding performance from Bashley, with maiden overs from A. Titcombe and J. Hughes, and wickets from T. Mills, W. Donnison and O.Sparshott-Thompson

In reply Bashley’s opening batsmen batted steadily and sensibly, with both T. Mills and J. Harris retiring on 27 and 25 respectively. With the score tied at the end of the 10th over, S. Menary and B. Dukes needed just one to win. E. Wooster made them wait a little longer with a maiden over, before S. Menary hit the winning run to clinch the match with the first ball of the 12th over.
Well done to the Bashley squad – another excellent all round team performance :

Happy smiles !

Bashley U11:  T. Mills ( C) , J. Harris ( WK)  S. Menary, L. Menary, R. White, A. Titcombe, O. Sparshott-Thompson, J. Hughes, B. Dukes, W. Donnison & C. Donnison

Friday 16th May :

U9s Bashley Rydal 281 Sway 269

Bashley youngsters enjoyed their first win in an entertaining match at the BCG.

All four pairs batted and ran well, Charlie Donnison top scored with a hard hit 21 (5 Fours) and everyone else contributed to an impressive 281 total.

Sway started well in reply but wickets for Christian Davies (1-6) and Joshua Randall (1-10), aided by some good keen fielding enabled Bashley to win by 12 runs.

Thursday 15th May.

Bashley U13B vs Hythe and Dibden.   Bashley 81 for 9, Hythe & Dibden 89 for 5

At long last decent weather allowed the U13s to get their season underway. Having missed the first two fixtures due to rain, all players were raring to go on a sunny evening at Bashley. This newly formed team had some players who didn't know eachother and a few U11s making them clear second favourites against an established opponent. However, youth and inexperience were swept aside by enthusiasm and dedication in what proved to be a close and exciting match.

Bashley won the toss and, having no idea what a good score should be - nor how many the team was capable of - put Hythe in to bat. Every player bowled (apart from the WK) and everyone did pretty well. Hythe were solid and steady, but were unable to race away thanks to good length bowling by all. Throughout their innings, Hythe learned that hitting boundaries was not easy off this bowling, so pushed more and more singles, which - to be honest - Bashley allowed a little too readily. A few dropped catches also let the Hythe batsmen off. Highlights were wickets for Jake Yapp, Scott Menary and Rosie White (all bowled) and for Eddie Clark (caught behind) and Simon Cooper (an amazing catch by Jake Yapp at midwicket). Hythe reached a total of 89 for 5 in 18 overs.

Bashley needed to bat positively. The target of 5 runs per over was achievable and, for much of the game, looked very likely. With 4 overs to go, Bashley needed only 15 runs to win, but by then the more experienced batsmen had been and gone and a combination of accurate bowling and tight fielding ensured Hythe took the honours. Bashley's innings had excellent momentum with all players looking to score quickly. Calling was (mostly) good but running was occasionally slow out of the blocks - there were 4 run outs. Rob Wakefield was the outstanding batsman, scoring 26 including some hefty blows to the boundary. Toby Mills also kept things exciting nearer the end with a run-a-ball 14. In the end, Bashley reached 81 for 9, losing by 8 runs.

Given the factors involved, this was an excellent performance and an enjoyable game. Bashley's batsmen actually scored 2 more runs than Hythe's, but extras were in Hythe's favour. Sharper fielding, faster running and holding catches will all improve as the season develops. We will then be a match for anyone.

Sunday 11th May:

Bashley U11 (pairs)                        Bashley 233 for 5, Fawley 240 for 4

Playing at home, Bashley’s U11 Pairs team finally got their season underway on Sunday with a home match against Fawley

The strong breeze had played its part overnight in drying out the pitch, but continued to contribute to the match with blustery conditions making it very hard going for both teams bowling and batting. Bashley opened the batting and confidence in calling and running developed as the innings progressed. An excellent shot from H. Bull produced a boundary in the 3rd pairing, and S. Menary’s calling was excellent , watching for every opportunity to push the score on in the final pairing. Bashley finished 233 for 5 at the end of their innings

In reply, Fawley’s run rate was very similar, with C. Parratt finding the boundary. Bashley’s bowling performances came from S. Menary with a maiden and a wicket, Katie Harding with a wicket maiden ( 3 overs, 2 runs, 1 wicket) and H. Bull taking 2 wickets and a catch. Excellent performance also behind the wicket from M. Chapman.  After an exciting final over, Fawley finished on 240 for 4.

The whole team should be very proud of their performance:  2 team members were playing their first match ever , and  several others having only played a couple of matches previously. A very encouraging start to the season.

Bashley U11 pairs : S. Menary (C ), D. De Wet, Katie Harding, A. Newland, M. Chapman (WK), B. Brearley, H. Bull & J. Hishon

U15 : Fawley v Bashley:               Fawley  79 for 8, Bashley 160 for 2

Playing away at Fawley, Bashley’s batting line-up was bolstered by the last minute availability of P. Holly.  Opening the batting, Bashley’s W. Taylor succumbed to an excellent 2nd ball from A. Forster, but strong performances came  from the Bashley batsmen : P Holly ( 42 retired), J. Gaunt ( 40 retired) T. Harris (32) and W. Logsdon ( 21 not out) and O. Crutch ( 11 not out) bringing Bashley’s innings to a close on 160 for 2

Bashley’s bowling attack continues to impress with opener M. Titcombe again producing a wicket in his first over followed by maiden and a catch. Cavan Davey added to his wicket tally  with a further 2 wickets, Chloe-Ann Anderson and T. Harris also took wickets, and in a fantastic final over, P. Holly produced an incredible 3 wicket maiden to finish the match with Fawley 79 for 8

Bashley U15:  T. Harris (C ), W. Taylor (WK), W. Logsdon, M. Titcombe, J. Lister, O Crutch, P. Holly , J. Gaunt, C Anderson, N Davey, C Davey

Friday 9th May:

Bashley U9 V New Milton    New Milton 250 Bashley Rydal 245

After last week's washout the U9’s made a short journey to neighbours New Milton for their first game of the season.

Bashley lost the toss and were put into bat on a cold, blustery evening, top scoring batsman Charlie Donnison scored 12 with all the others batting and defending their wickets well.

Bashley only lost 2 wickets finishing with a creditable score of 245.

Bashley then followed up by producing a good bowling and fielding performance considering for many this was their first ever colts game.

Six year old Kieran Pardey took 3 wickets in his first 2 overs, with other wickets taken by Nick Esterhuizen, Charlie Donnison & Thomas Manning.  Ben Fowle had an excellent game keeping wicket claiming two well taken catches. New Miltons strong last pair batted well seeing their team to victory by 5 runs.

The boys should be proud of a good all round team performance.

Bashley U9 : Ben Fowle (capt & wk), Christian Davies, Nick Esterhuizen, Charlie Donnison,
Kieran Pardey, Joshua Shafer, James Bala & Thomas Manning

Sunday 4th May

Bashley u15 v Mudeford                        Bashley 132 for 3, Mudeford 20 all out

Playing at home, a strong opening performance from T. Harris and W. Taylor, who retired on 41 and 40 respectively, put Bashley in a good position. This was continued by W. Logsdon ( 21 not out) bringing Bashley’s innings to a close on 132 for 3.

Bashley’s bowling attack was equally impressive with opener M. Titcombe producing a maiden over followed by a wicket maiden and 2 catches. Cavan Davey added to Mudeford’s problems during his spell producing 3 wicket maidens, O. Crutch a double wicket maiden and a wicket for W. Logsdon

Mudeford’s innings was short-lived, all out for 20 in the 13th over.

An excellent start to the season for the U15 squad.

U11- Ellingham V Bashley:                           Ellingham: 81 for 7, Bashley 123 for 7

Playing away at Ellingham, Bashley’s U11 11-aside squad lost the toss and were put into bat.

Bashley’s opening batsmen batted carefully for the first 3 overs. The first wicket fell in the 1st ball of the 4th over, and incoming W. Syms found the boundary twice before being caught and bowled by O. Murdoch taking his 2nd wicket of the over. The pace shifted, as S. Presland continued to dispatch balls to the boundary, reaching 26 (retired) within 10 deliveries. J. Harris ( 26 retired) then continued the momentum with S. Menary ( 15), and participation from all the squad saw them reach a total of 123 for 7 at the close of the innings.

In reply, the Bashley bowlers kept Ellingham’s run rate slow to start with. Wicket maidens came from A. Titcombe ( 2 overs, 0 runs, 1 Wk) and T. Mills, with O. Sparshott-Thomson taking a further  3 wickets ,R. White 1 wicket  and a run-out in the final over. Despite the early fall of wickets, there was a determined stand from Ellingham’s M. Pepperall ( 10), D. Carter ( 25 retired) and B. Weekes ( 15) which took their final score to 81 for 7 at the close.

An excellent all round performance from the Bashley squad, and a great start to the season
